Aside from playing against other clubs in local league competitions Chester Chess Club also run competitions internal to the club for players of all levels. The club currently runs four internal competitions for adults.
The Club Championship – An all play all tournament for the strongest players of the club ran throughout the course of the season.
The Hallard Cup – An all play all tournament that was traditionally ran for the intermediate players of the club throughout the course of the season. In more recent years it is now awarded to the winner of a tournament held over the summer months for the novice players of the club.
The Townsend Trophy – An all play all tournament for the novice players of the club ran throughout the course of the season.
The Coleby Cup – A five round Swiss competition played in the summer months at the end of the regular season and open to all.
A fifth competition used to be ran called the The Presidents Challenge Board. At present it is no longer competed for.
And finally a more recent innovation has been our Christmas Blitz tournament. A five round Swiss handicap played on the club night before Christmas enjoyed by all club members.
