Expectations were high after Chester won a set and board a couple of years ago in this fine Bolton-organised team tournament. Swapping in Crocker for White was perhaps a selection error as we were no longer eligible for any rating prize. Nevertheless the team of McDonagh, Crocker, Lloyd and Emerton lost only one match against winners Stockport. Not quite enough to win a clock though…
Keith Emerton, pictured below in trademark concentration pose, pulled off the tightest win against Bolton 2, reaching the win with only a couple of seconds left.
